Submitted manuscripts are reviewed by the Editorial Committee and accepted articles will be published in JMISST.
(1) Manuscripts to be reviewed: all submitted manuscripts are peer reviewed.
(2) Who conducts peer review: Peer review is conducted by at least two external experts.
(3) Type of peer review: a double-blind peer review. The author and reviewer cannot identify each other. The names of reviewers are not posted in the published article. Reviewers are anonymous.
(4) Screening before peer review: If the manuscript does not align with the journal's aims and scope or style and format, the editorial office returns it immediately to the authors. In the case of human population studies, the manuscript without an appropriate ethics statement is also returned to the authors without peer review.
(5) Plagiarism check: All submitted manuscripts are screened for duplication through Crosscheck (https://app.ithenticate.com) before review. All contributions (including solicited articles) are critically reviewed by the editorial board members, and/or reviewers. If a certain amount of duplicate content is detected, it is returned to the authors.
(6) Author-recommended reviewers: Some can be invited as peer reviewers, but only sometimes. The editorial office may recommend other external experts.
(7) Review of research data or supplementary material: Those materials are subjected to peer review.
(8) Duration for the first decision: The result of the first peer review is usually finished within two months. If there is no correspondence from the editorial office regarding the fate of the submitted manuscript two months after submission, please get in touch with the editorial office.
(9) Revision process: The Editorial Board may ask authors to revise their manuscripts according to the reviewers' opinions. Authors should upload revised manuscripts with replies to each reviewer's comments. Revisions should be completed within 30 days after they are requested. If a revised manuscript is not received by the due date, the Editorial Board will not consider it for publication. Depending on the circumstances, authors may request an extension of the revision period to the Editorial Board. The manuscript review process should be finished with the second review. The Editorial Board may consider further review upon request from the authors.
(10) Review by statistician: It can be implemented when data needs professional statistical review by a statistician.
(11) Final decision maker: An editorial board finally decides the manuscript's fate, such as accept, reject, and re-submission, after hearing from peer reviewers.
(12) Review by the editorial board: The editorial board reviews some publication types, including editorials, errata, corrigenda, retractions, withdrawals, and letters to the editor, without external peer review.
(13) The journal does not guarantee acceptance of initial manuscript submissions except for the invited articles.
(14) The publication date is published with all published research, including submission, revision, and acceptance dates.
(15) Review of in-house manuscripts: All manuscripts from editors, staff, or editorial board members are subject to the same review process as other submissions. During the review process, they will not be involved in the selection of reviewers or the decision-making process. Editors will not handle their manuscripts even if they have been commissioned.
(16) Printing: The authors should proofread and edit their accepted manuscript carefully before printing, and can still request additional corrections at this stage. The Editorial Committee makes the final edits and decides whether to publish the manuscript and the order in which the manuscript is published.

The discussion and decision on the suspected cases are carried out by the Editorial Board.
10. Publication ethics
Journal policies on authorship and contributorship
https://www.jmisst.org/policy/ethics.php
Authorship credit should be based on 1) substantial contributions to conception and design, acquisition of data, and/or analysis and interpretation of data; 2) drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content; 3) final approval of the version to be published; and 4) agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved. Every author should meet all of these four conditions. After the initial submission of a manuscript, any changes whatsoever in authorship (adding author(s), deleting author(s), or re-arranging the order of authors) must be explained by a letter to the editor from the authors concerned. This letter must be signed by all authors of the paper. Copyright assignment must also be completed by every author.
Corresponding author and first author: Journal of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery & Technique does not allow multiple corresponding authors for one article. Only one author should correspond with the editorial office and readers for one article. Journal of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery & Technique does accept notice of equal contribution for the first author when the study was clearly performed by co-first authors.
Correction of authorship after publication: Journal of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery & Technique does not correct authorship after publication unless a mistake has been made by the editorial staff. Authorship may be changed before publication but after submission when an authorship correction is requested by all of the authors involved with the manuscript.
How the journal will handle complaints and appeals
The policy of the journal is primarily aimed at protecting the authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher of the journal. If not described below, the process of handling complaints and appeals follows the COPE guidelines available from: https://publicationethics.org/appeals.
Who complains or makes an appeal? Submitters, authors, reviewers, and readers may register complaints and appeals in a variety of cases as follows: falsification, fabrication, plagiarism, duplicate publication, authorship dispute, conflict of interest, ethical treatment of animals, informed consent, bias or unfair/inappropriate competitive acts, copyright, stolen data, defamation, and legal problem. If any individuals or institutions want to inform the cases, they can send a letter via the contact page on our website: https://www.jmisst.org/about/contact.php. For the complaints or appeals, concrete data with answers to all factual questions (who, when, where, what, how, why) should be provided.
Who is responsible for resolving and handling complaints and appeals? The Editor, Editorial Board, or Editorial Office is responsible for them. A legal consultant or ethics editor may be able to help with decision making.
What may be the consequence of the remedy? It depends on the type or degree of misconduct. The consequence of resolution will follow the COPE guidelines.
Journal policies on conflicts of interest / competing interests
The corresponding author must inform the editor of any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the authors’ interpretation of the data. Examples of potential conflicts of interest are financial support from or connections to companies, political pressure from interest groups, and academically related issues. In particular, all sources of funding applicable to the study should be explicitly stated.
Journal policies on data sharing and reproducibility;
https://www.jmisst.org/authors/ethics.php
This journal follows the data sharing policy described in "Data Sharing Statements for Clinical Trials: A Requirement of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors" (https://doi.org/10.3346/jkms.2017.32.7.1051). As of July 1, 2018 manuscripts submitted to ICMJE journals that report the results of interventional clinical trials must contain a data sharing statement as described below. Clinical trials that begin enrolling participants on or after January 1, 2019 must include a data sharing plan in the trial's registration. The ICMJE's policy regarding trial registration is explained at https://www.icmje.org/about-icmje/faqs/clinical-trials-registration/. If the data sharing plan changes after registration this should be reflected in the statement submitted and published with the manuscript, and updated in the registry record.
All of the authors of research articles that deal with interventional clinical trials must submit data sharing plan of example 1 to 4 in Table 1. Based on the degree of sharing plan, authors should deposit their data after de-identification and report the DOI of the data and the registered site.

Journal's policy on ethical oversight
When the Journal faces suspected cases of research and publication misconduct such as a redundant (duplicate) publication, plagiarism, fabricated data, changes in authorship, undisclosed conflicts of interest, an ethical problem discovered with the submitted manuscript, a reviewer who has appropriated an author’s idea or data, complaints against editors, and other issues, the resolving process will follow the flowchart provided by COPE (https://publicationethics.org/resources/flowcharts). The Editorial Board will discuss the suspected cases and reach a decision. We will not hesitate to publish errata, corrigenda, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when needed.
Upon discovery of misconduct in research and/or publication ethics, the following actions will be taken: A declaration of manuscript retraction and its reason will be made public via the journal and website and the incident will be shared with the funding agency as applicable, as well as the authors’ institution. A written warning will be issued to authors, who will be banned from submitting manuscripts for a minimum of 3 years.
